Biography

Serge Perathoner is a French composer, keyboard player and arranger. Studio musician and arranger for Yves Simon, Michel Berger, Luc Plamondon, France Gall, Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan and Céline Dion, he also arranged the music for Starmania and Notre-Dame de Paris, and has composed film scores and theme tunes (Ushuaïa Nature and Navarro).

Serge Perathoner studied at the Conservatoire National de Troyes before moving on to piano, chamber music and writing at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris.
His debut was alongside Yves Simon on the score for the film, Diabolo Menthe (Peppermint Soda), in 1977. Then with the American violinist, David Rose, he formed Blue Rose, whose album broke into the Billboard charts.

In the studio and/or on stage, Serge Perathoner has accompanied France Gall, Michel Berger, Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan, Jane Birkin and Gérard Manset. As an arranger and musical director, he has worked on albums for Céline Dion and France Gall. As a close associate of Michel Berger, he was responsible for the arrangement and musical direction of Starmania (the 1988 and 1993 versions) and La Légende de Jimmy (1991). After this the author, Luc Plamondon, and the composer, Richard Cocciante, asked him to do the same work for their successful musical comedy, Notre-Dame de Paris.

Working alongside Jannick Top, he has also composed television theme tunes (Ushuaïa Nature, Opération Okavango), jingles, music for TV series (Navarro, Fabio Montale), ballets (Roland Petit) and scores. He has regularly worked with Pierre and Marc Jolivet in cinéma, television and theatre. At the end of the 1980s he set up Piano Bass Music Ltd, which produces and edits the bulk of his compositions, including the credits for Nicolas Hulot's television programme, Ushuaïa Nature.
