  • Manu Bertrand

    Multi-instrumentalist

Manu Bertrand is a multi-instrumentalist musician specialized in American music.

Manu Bertrand is a multi-instrumentalist musician specialized in American music.

For more than 25 years, he has put his musical universe at the service of many artists such as Martha Fields, Gildas Arzel, Shaka Ponk, Tom Frager, Valentine Lambert, Dick Rivers, Eric Bibb or Jean-Jacques Milteau.

Dobro, banjo, mandolin, electric and acoustic guitar, pedal steel guitar and lap steel are all strings to his bow. A totally self-taught musician as comfortable in the studio as in live, Manu Bertrand particularly likes to create bridges between traditional and modern music, between musical styles or between artists from different backgrounds.

A bit more than just country music
Nowadays, this virtuoso multi-instrumentalist remains a powerhouse in the country music scene, but he's also received requests - on a more and more regular basis - to accompany some of the leading lights in French music, such as Tom Frager, Shaka Ponk and Gildas Arzel. He still finds time for studio recording between all the concerts and rehearsals. Or reeling off a few notes for an advertising campaign: you can hear him play the banjo on a TV advert for dairy products.

    Acclaimed by the stars
Performing in front of an audience is still his main purpose in life. He has done the tour of the big venues, like the Olympia in Paris, while playing alongside the big names, like Jean-Jacques Milteau, Eric Bibb and Groundation. You can also see him at lots of well-known festivals across France and Europe, which means that his dobro, his banjo, his mandolin and his pedal-steel are becoming more and more familiar. He has even been on TV with Michel Drucker and Antoine de Caunes.

    An artist on the move
He travels the highways of France and Europe, and flies off to Morocco, Australia and the USA. Hopping backwards and forwards between Austin, Texas and Bordeaux with Martha Fields Galloway, the American singer and composer, has opened up a whole new set of horizons, some near, some far. Folk and country music have merged to set his instruments on fire and keep the public crying out for more.

Despite his way-too-busy schedule, he's always able to squeeze in some time for his travelling companions, like Erik Sitbon, Wayne Law and Mary Reynaud.

Marc Bercovitz , a man of many talents : an immense creator partitions, ingenious music composer of all kinds especially for film, arranger and orchestrator great demand for many artists .

Marc Bercovitz was born in Paris in 1955. He first studied piano at the age of 5, then came percussion, an instrument of choice with which he won numerous awards, including a first Conservatory Prize. Over the years he perfected his skills in harmony, counterpoint, instrumentation, arrangement and composition, and graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

He then founded his own school of modern music, the BMS, which was taught at the Paris Opera. Even if music has always resonated in him as a matter of course, much more than a passion, he does not forget his daily learning as well as his development.

Note that today and since 2006, he joined the very closed circle of rare composers hand-picked in Los Angeles by the famous David Blumberg, mythical arranger of titles such as "I will survive", and discoverer of monuments such as Michael Jackson, Franck Sinatra, Tina Turner, Quincy Jones ... An active collaboration with the American musical elite...

Rare distinction for a French composer.

Between blues and metal, Marko Balland is undoubtedly the most rock harmonica player of his generation !!

As a blues harmonicist, Marko went to the US in 1985 to rub shoulders with the most significant musicians of the blues world. Upon returning to Paris, he set up his first blues group, Golden Blues Band, where he scorched the halls of France with his unique, blazing style. He played with several bluesmen in Paris, notably Marwa Right in "Blue Suburbs"!

Having discovered rock through Jimi Hendrix, Marko Balland released an album in tribute to Jimi under the name Marko A Donf'experience.

He contributes to several studio sessions for well-known albums!

Takes part in the creation of the recording studios Le Chantier in Montreuil (Paris)

2010: Release of a double single with titles: "Pas Touche” and “Le Ciel Va..”. and realase of Marko Balland’s First album “Mille et Un Reveil.

2012 - 2013: The release of Marko Balland's second album Dentelles Hurlantes (translated Howling Lace) truly affirms the scope and style of this harmonicist/singer. Between blues and metal, Marko Balland is undoubtedly, no question, the most rock oriented harmonica man of his generation!! The powerful sound of his guitar-like harmonica style vascillates between Jimi Hendrix and Reeves Gabrels. The lyrics of Boris Bergman (Baschung) make his music a beautiful French homage while keeping the musicality of the Rock n'Roll of France. And finally, The Marseillais Trio with their big guitar sounds and bigger rhythms definitively melds the metal rock sound of this record with the once again stellar collaboration of Boris Bergman (lyrics) and drummer Stéphane Avellaneda (Ana Popovic) on the song “Pas Touche”.

    Early 2012:

    • Release of the album Dentelles Hurlantes (Howling Lace) recorded and videoed partly at Studio Le Chantier in Paris and Freaky Dog Studio in Marseille.

  • Mateo Relief vs Mister X5

    Producer experimental music

"Mateo Relief vs MISTER X5" is a bit like Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde but in music. Two different but complementary facets: Mateo Relief is the cheerful and lively side, and, MISTER X5, rather the darker and melancholy side.

"Mateo Relief vs MISTER X5" is a bit like Dr Jeckyll & Mr Hyde but in music. Two different but complementary facets: Mateo Relief is the cheerful and lively side, and, MISTER X5, rather the darker and melancholy side.

Mateo came to love music at a very early age, influenced by his music-mad father and inspired by Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Klaus Schulze and many more.

In 1987 he discovered computer and synthesiser music, which he taught himself on Korg and integrated into his projects.

He created the MISTER X5 character, whose style was Dark Ambient Experimental. As MISTER X5, he and the cyberpunk, Kenji Siratori, released several EPs on a German label. With Detroit techno and the WARP label as major influences, he began to compose tracks with more of a deep and driving rhythm.

Having taken this new direction, he coined a new pseudonym for himself, Mateo Relief. He has released several EPs with the Yuko Record label.

Recently, Mateo Relief v MISTER X5 has been working on short projects with the producer, Jay Viallet. Mateo uses the Studio 22 Pro sound card and the Pro Ribbon 8 studio monitors.
